Hellooo everybody!

As the coordinators of the children issue area this summer,we are SUPER excited to put together a fantastic FYSOP!! In its 22nd year, the First Year Student Outreach Project at Boston University is one the institution’s most prestigious and honored traditions. 1,000 incoming students and 230 undergraduate staff members move into housing a week before classes start to bond, unite, and work together to perform volunteer service. After opening ceremonies, social activities, and an emotional education day, groups of students go out on site visits all over the greater Boston area for 3 days of real, tangible service. All of the issue areas of FYSOP work together to promote “FYSOP Fusion,” or the notion of unity among all areas of social service. Our volunteer applicants are placed into one of ten areas–Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS, Homelessness and Housing, Human Rights, Hunger, and Urban Renewal.

The children issue area will focus on four compelling topics in the field–Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Child Abuse, Foster Care, and Children in Poverty. Our volunteers will travel in groups of 15 to 3 different sites on each day–all of which promise the rewarding benefits of physical service and the sincere fostering of a sense of community.

Let’s stand up for CHILDREN!!
